Tell us a little bit about your role at Corteva?
My role at Corteva is very varied, no day is the same and no day finishes as it was planned to be at the start. My role involves answering calls from customers on the technical hotline. The calls are wide-ranging and often involve a bit of detective work to find out the answer, which I love. Helping a grower to get the best from our products is what it is all about. Finding practical solutions to their problems. I also liaise with customers to ensure that our compatibilities are relevant and the most complete that they can be. Another aspect to my role is regarding Minor Uses, helping smaller more niche markets to gain Extension of Minor Use authorisations on crops that have very few pesticide control options and helping them to continue production in GB and Ireland.
Can you describe your journey to becoming a Technical Services Specialist at Corteva?
I began my journey several years ago, as an agronomist, field-walking several 1000 acres as well as buying grain and selling fertiliser and seed, working for a distributor. From there I progressed to work for DuPont and then onto Corteva to help with trials and onto technical support. This allowed me to continue to be able to advise growers on queries they may have.
Do you have a connection to agriculture outside of Corteva?
I have lived on a farm all my life and after studying at Harper Adams, where I met my husband, I moved from Hampshire to Yorkshire to help him on the mixed family farm. Both my children are also involved in the farm now as well. This connection allows me to fully understand the challenges growers face and how best to solve them. I’m very much a person who works best when I understand all the factors at play. It also helps me to give feedback to Corteva to help make them aware of what growers face now and in the future.
What has been the most interesting project you’ve worked on at Corteva?
I have also previously worked within registration and still act as a critical friend to them to ensure that our product labels provide appropriate relevant solutions to growers. I also enjoy making sure that our compatibilities are suitable for growers and loved organising and creating the compatibility lists for Inatreq to ensure a successful launch and for all many other subsequent products. I also enjoy supporting other members of the team with technical documents and information to ensure growers can use our products to their optimum.
How do you keep up to date with the latest advancements and trends in agriculture?
I am still BASIS qualified so attend a wide variety of CPD training events from other organisations such as NIAB and TAG. I attend Cereals and other agricultural events and regularly listen to podcasts.
