Across Corteva we are fortunate to have interns like Megna Gohil providing a fresh perspective and learning what #LifeAtCorteva is like, working to support farmers and enrich lives.
Megna joined Corteva in April 2024 on a 6-month internship. Let’s hear a bit more about Megna’s experience working as a Marketing Communications Assistant for Corteva Agriscience UK and Ireland.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am a public relations and brand communications graduate from North-West London. I am currently on my final secondment, as part of the Management Development Services (MDS) graduate scheme. Being part MDS, I have been fortunate to work with different member companies and move across the UK from Peterborough to Chester and now, Melbourn in Cambridgeshire.
I studied at Leeds Beckett University and after I completed my degree, I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease, an autoimmune condition that meant I needed to immediately stop eating gluten i.e. no bread, pasta, or cake (some of my favourite things)!
With my diagnosis, I wanted to learn more about the food and industry and farming. I joined the MDS scheme in 2022 and have enjoyed every moment of it! I‘ve had amazing insights into the food industry as well as stakeholder and customer journeys. Being part of Corteva’s Marketing Communication team has been such an incredible opportunity and I could not be more thankful for being part of such a superb team.
What inspired you to apply for the internship role at Corteva?
Although I have no prior experience in the agricultural industry, the MDS graduate trainee scheme has provided me with an incredible opportunity to explore and learn about the food and agriculture sector. My degree has always fuelled my passion for Communications, and being part of the UK and Ireland’s Marketing Communications team has further ignited this enthusiasm!
At Corteva I have had many opportunities to learn and understand the impact farming has and gained valuable insights about the industry as well as an overall appreciation for the work farmers do.
What has a typical day at Corteva been like for you?
Every day is different! From working on communication campaigns, to events, to organising promotional materials. I have had the opportunity to work on Corteva’s e-newsletters with particular focus on the Forage Agronomy Update, as well as many social media campaigns.
I have worked on many interesting projects including launching the Arable App in Ireland. The Arable App provides on the go solutions to growers, advisors and spray operators with crop protection information, Kerb Weather Data, BlueN optimisation, product label and technical information.
It has been a remarkable learning and development opportunity to work on some other “a-maize-ing” projects such as the Maize Silage Inoculant survey!
What have been your highlights of this role?
The main highlight of my secondment was working on the Corteva stand at Cereals Event 2024. I had the opportunity to gather further knowledge about the agricultural industry, the importance of crop protection and I had the opportunity to have many interesting conversations with farmers and advisors.
As my secondment comes to an end, I must highlight the exceptional people and culture at Corteva. Everyone has shown great support and a passion for my development. It has been a pleasure working with such an amazing group of people. I have learnt so much from my colleagues at Corteva and it has been a wonderful final secondment!
Do you have any advice for people wanting to enter the agricultural sector?
To get stuck in! I joined MDS with no prior knowledge of the food or agricultural industry and I have learnt so much during my time at Corteva and overall, on the MDS graduate scheme. Take every opportunity to speak to various individuals and ask questions. Always be willing to learn and grow.
