At Corteva, we are fortunate to have interns like Rachel Bullin, who bring fresh perspectives and fully engage in our mission to support farmers and enrich lives.
Rachel became a part of our Marketing Communications team in October 2024 for a 6-month internship. Let's explore Rachel's journey and insights during her time with us!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I have a background in Marine Biology, having graduated with a master's degree from the University of Southampton in 2022. You might be wondering how I ended up in agriscience with a Marine Biology degree—well, it's all thanks to my two-year graduate scheme with MDS. MDS offers four secondments across different sectors of the food industry and, right from the start, I found myself fascinated by agriscience. This interest sparked when I studied how biotechnology can be used to protect crops. Corteva is my third secondment with MDS. Before this, I had the chance to work at Weetabix as an Environment, Health, and Safety Intern, and then at Iceland Foods as a New Product Development Technologist. It's been an exciting and eye-opening journey so far!
What does a typical day as a CRM and Digital Intern at Corteva look like?
For those who might not be familiar, CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management, and I work within the dynamic Marketing Communications team. I'm fortunate that my internship encompasses both CRM and Digital Marketing activities meaning my day-to-day is a blend of data management and creative marketing tasks. My key responsibilities involve maintaining the high quality of our customer and distributor data, ensuring it's always up-to-date and accurate to best support our Sales and Marketing teams. On the digital side, I compile the monthly UK and Ireland newsletters, ensuring our customers receive seasonally relevant technical information to support their farm businesses. I also develop content for Corteva’s websites and track the performance of our activities. It's a diverse role that keeps me engaged and constantly learning!
What keeps you motivated and inspired outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to stay active by attending gym classes and going on local nature walks. Staying physically active helps me maintain my energy levels and keeps me feeling refreshed. Additionally, I'm a qualified scuba diver and, whenever I get the chance, I love traveling around the world to different diving spots. This hobby and being in nature help me recharge and gives me a fresh perspective. I'm also a certified foodie, and with the Corteva UK office being based near Cambridge, I've enjoyed exploring all the hidden culinary gems the city has to offer with my friends. All these activities help me maintain a healthy work-life balance and keep me motivated and inspired.
Do you have any advice for people wanting to enter the agricultural sector?
For anyone contemplating a role in agriscience, I would say absolutely go for it! Not only will you be contributing to an industry that plays a crucial role in supporting farmers and sustainable farming practices, but at Corteva, you'll find countless opportunities to explore all aspects of the business. Through various opportunities at Corteva, I’ve attended many meetings, skills workshops and breakfast calls to connect with fellow interns in Corteva offices around the world. I'm part of an amazing team that has championed my development from the start, allowing me to get involved in numerous projects that have deepened my knowledge and introduced me to different business functions within the company. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience, with every day bringing new learning opportunities and challenges, and I highly recommend it to anyone passionate about making a difference in the agricultural space.
