Across Corteva we are fortunate to have interns, like Thomas Godfrey-Faussett, providing a fresh perspective and learning what #LifeAtCorteva is like, working to support farmers and enrich lives.
Thomas joined Corteva on the 1st of April 2023 for a 6-month internship. Let’s hear a bit more about Thomas’s experience working as Forage Intern for Corteva UK and Ireland.
What can you tell us about yourself?
Having always been involved in farming and coming off a degree in agriculture at the Royal Agricultural University, this internship was the perfect opportunity to experience a different area of the industry.
Having grown up in the Scottish Borders, it was brilliant to be based down at the Cambridge office, although slightly less sheep around than I would have liked!
What inspired you to apply for the internship at Corteva?
I believe when leaving University, this is a critical time to experience as many different areas of the industry as possible and Corteva were offering a huge range, which was hard to look past. They are a global company who have the farmers best interests at heart and a 6-month internship was the perfect option for my continued development.
What has a typical day at Corteva been like for you?
During the busy grassland season, a week could vary from being at a trade show one day, to helping out with a crop assessment another. Followed by time in the office working on market analysis projects to help the forage team.
What have been your highlights of this role?
The highlights for me are certainly getting involved with crop trials and assessments as well as helping out with events. I always felt incredibly supported by the team, but they also challenged me, which was essential to make sure I got the most out of the 6 months.
Do you have any advice for people wanting to enter the agricultural sector?
The agricultural sector is constantly changing and having to adapt to new challenges. Whether you have agricultural experience or not, I would encourage anyone to get involved in the industry. It always needs new ideas and different characters throughout it, to allow the industry to continually develop. A strong work ethic and an enthusiasm and willingness to learn, I believe are two key factors for anyone looking to get involved in the sector.
I would say the agricultural sector is a very supportive and caring environment and I am incredibly proud to be involved in it!
I cannot thank Corteva enough for the opportunities they have given me and I will be keeping a very close eye on their continued development, especially in the grassland sector. A fantastic company, filled with incredible people, and I would not have changed the past 6 months for anything.
