Pixxaro® to be first Corteva herbicide piloting easyconnect packaging

Arable farmers purchasing broad-leaved weed herbicide Pixxarro in 2025 will see the product has new, more sustainable packaging and an integrated easyconnect cap as part of an innovative design overhaul.

The lightweight bottle reduces the amount of plastic used by 12% and carries 10% less weight compared to similar products from other manufacturers.

The neck has been centred to ease pouring and its clear material allows sprayer operators more visibility of the contents during filling and rinsing.

Another major step forward is the introduction of an easyconnect cap which is being piloted with Pixxaro in 2025 as part of the ongoing rollout across crop protection products used in the industry.

The easyconnect cap, when used with either a sprayer-integrated or stand-alone coupler, forms a closed transfer system which significantly reduces operator exposure and spilling risks.

Users without a coupler simply unscrew the cap for conventional filling.

Alister McRobbie, Category Manager for Cereal Herbicides, said: “We’re introducing a range of changes to our Pixxaro bottles to improve the safety and handling of products, and to be more environmentally sustainable."

“Standardising the shape of the bottle regardless of its size (5l, 3l or 2l) helps users to quickly identify it in the chemical store, and the clear, lighter packaging makes it easier to handle.

“We’ve removed the induction seal to make the whole pack recyclable and the redesigned handles are more ergonomic and comfortable to use when pouring."

“The integration of the easyconnect system is also a significant step forward.”

Corteva’s EU Product Stewardship Leader, Louise Brinkworth, added: “It’s encouraging to see progress on the commitment to implement easyconnect caps on to our products, reflecting our dedication and determination and marking a step forward to making closed transfer systems available to users across Europe.”

Corteva is part of a cross-industry group committed to bringing the easyconnect system to market.

The pilot project is Corteva’s next move towards rolling the packaging out across its portfolio of market-leading crop protection products.

Pixxaro contains ArylexTM active in formulation with fluroxypyr offering robust, fast-acting control of cleavers, poppies, cranesbill, fumitory, fat hen, chickweed, brassicas and mayweeds.

It can be applied in the spring to winter and spring-sown cereal crops.

Alister recommends using Arylex chemistry early when weeds are small for maximum impact.

“Taking out yield-robbing weeds early releases the plant’s potential by reducing competition in the crop,” he said.

Pixxaro is very flexible and compatible with PGRs, trace elements, fungicides and other herbicides.

“Growers with suspected or confirmed resistance to ALS chemistry in poppies and chickweed will see the benefit of the alternative mode of action straight away,” Alister added.
