Tell us a little bit about your role at Corteva?
I am a Category Marketing Manager looking after our Oilseed Rape Herbicides, Seed Applied Technologies and Instinct portfolios for the UK and Ireland business. The role involves managing strategy, processes and activity to bring new products to market and to support and maintain our current range. Part of this is working with a brilliant team of people across the business, from R&D, Regulatory, Technical, Sales and Marketing Communications. It’s a great role which covers a lot of areas, so there’s never a dull moment!
Can you describe your journey to becoming a Category Marketing Manager at Corteva?
Since starting work in the agricultural industry in 2010, I’ve never looked back. I realised I enjoyed the agronomy side very early on and went on to become BASIS qualified in 2014. From then I knew I wanted a role which had a combination of technical and marketing aspects.
I joined Corteva in 2018 as CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Manager and have since had a lot of opportunity for development. From there I moved to Marketing Communications and CRM Manager. In 2020, as we started introducing our biologicals business, I also took on the role of Biostimulants Product Manager. That gave me the extra skills and experience to move into the Category Marketing Manager role in 2023.
Do you have a connection to agriculture outside of Corteva?
I don’t come from a farming background but grew up with horses and was out riding at any opportunity. That led me to travel to Australia in my gap year and work on a cattle station. Then I got my first job in agriculture in 2010 working for Syngenta.
I still have horses, so I am out in the countryside most of the time I’m not working – a great opportunity to have a look at fields, crops, and see what’s going on!
What has been the most interesting project you've worked on at Corteva?
I would say working on projects to do with product innovation have been the most interesting and exciting. It was great to work on our biostimulants portfolio and to be thinking about how these products fit into agronomy practices and can support crop health and resilience.
And more recently, being involved in the seed applied technology business with so many new technologies coming across different crops! Lots to think about!
Who are the colleagues who have influenced you the most in your professional journey?
I have and still work with amazing people every day! I’m constantly inspired and influenced.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a Category Marketing Manager in the agricultural industry?
More heads are better than one; always be curious; strategy, planning and proactivity are key; keep communicating.
Why would you recommend Corteva as a great place to work?
