Can you tell us a bit about your role at Corteva?

My role as a Marketing Communications and CRM Specialist involves planning and delivering strategic, targeted marketing communications campaigns that help achieve key objectives for the portfolios I work within. I am also responsible for managing and maintaining the company’s CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system within the UK and Ireland, ensuring any relevant processes are followed to keep the data healthy alongside rolling out any new functionality within the team to support activities in the field. I’m able to enjoy a varied role with plenty of opportunity to get involved in different projects or tasks which keeps things exciting and gives me a chance to grow my knowledge and skills.

Can you describe your journey to becoming a Marketing Communications and CRM Specialist at Corteva?

Before I joined Corteva permanently, I had the opportunity to kick off my career as a graduate on the Management Development Services (MDS) programme. During my time on MDS, I gained experience across different roles, from supply chain at a specialised superfood brand, to health and safety at a plant nursery. My final placement was with Corteva, which you can read about here, and that’s where I truly found my fit. The programme was an incredible learning experience, as it exposed me to different companies, cultures, and challenges. I had to adapt quickly, absorb new information, and navigate unfamiliar processes to understand the work at hand. By the end of the MDS programme, I knew Corteva was the right place for me and was lucky enough to be able to apply and join the company as a Marketing Communications and CRM Coordinator in 2023. Since then, I have had the chance to work on different projects and work areas to expand my remit progressing to specialist last year.

What has been the most interesting project you've worked on at Corteva?

Since joining Corteva, I've had the chance to work on some exciting projects. One of the highlights was being part of the CRM team that helped transition from using three separate heritage CRM systems to a single, centralised system. This shift not only streamlined processes, but also ensured we aligned with European and global functionality, creating consistency across regions. Another standout experience was managing Corteva's involvement at Cereals Event 2024; one of the flagship arable events in the farming calendar. These two projects, while quite different in scope, both pushed me to test and expand my skills, giving me valuable insights into new areas of work. Plus, they involved working on projects with high stakeholder expectations, which made them even more rewarding to deliver!

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in MarComms and CRM within the agricultural industry?

To stay ahead in the industry, it’s essential to keep informed about the latest updates, challenges, and changes. The landscape is always evolving, and keeping up with these shifts helps you adapt and stay competitive. Being curious about the industry is another game-changer. By staying open to new ideas and looking for inspiration everywhere, you’ll not only stay engaged but also discover fresh perspectives that can spark innovative solutions. And let’s not forget the importance of attention to detail. Taking pride in maintaining high standards in your work and processes not only sets you apart, but also ensures quality and consistency in everything you do. It's these small touches that make a big difference in the long run!

What skills and experiences have been most valuable in your position?

In my role, there are some key skills and experiences I think are essential. Attention to detail is a big one, especially when it comes to communications. It’s important for maintaining consistency and professionalism across everything I do, whether it’s emails, social posts, or website content. Time management and project planning are also critical, particularly when I’m handling events. Managing timelines, coordinating logistics, and ensuring everything runs like clockwork requires a solid plan and the ability to stay on top of every detail. Data processing is at the heart of my CRM responsibilities. Being able to analyse and work with data ensures that we make informed decisions and can optimise how we engage with customers. Finally, teamworking and problem-solving are part of my day-to-day. Whether it's collaborating with others on a project, or tackling unexpected challenges, these skills help me navigate the complexities of my role and keep things moving forward.

Who are the colleagues who have influenced you the most in your professional journey?

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have colleagues within the MarComms and CRM team who’ve had a huge impact on my journey. Their guidance and support have shaped my professional growth throughout. My manager in particular has continuously offered valuable insights and mentorship that have helped me navigate challenges and seize new opportunities. I also enjoy working with colleagues from all across the company. Every team has its own area of expertise, and it’s a great chance to learn from them. Whether it’s gaining new knowledge about their specialisations, or tapping into their wealth of experience, I always leave these interactions feeling inspired and more informed. 

What aspects of Corteva's work culture do you find most appealing and supportive?

One of the things I find most appealing about Corteva is the incredible community of colleagues. Everyone here is genuinely passionate about the company’s mission, and that enthusiasm is contagious. It creates a positive and driven atmosphere where everyone is working towards a shared goal. I also really appreciate how supportive the team members are. There’s a real willingness to collaborate, share ideas, and pitch in to help each other out. It’s all about reaching those shared goals together, and it makes every project feel like a team effort. Another aspect of Corteva that stands out to me is the breadth of opportunity available. There’s always room to grow, expand your role, and take on new challenges.
