Can you tell us a bit about your role at Corteva?
My official job title is ‘North EU IFS (integrated field sciences) Admin’, but the bulk of my role is as a payment administrator rather than general admin. I facilitate the creation of Purchase Orders (POs), mainly for external field trials, for 9 countries across northern Europe (including the UK and Ireland), and process the related invoices.
What has been the most thrilling project you worked on at Corteva?
The most interesting project I’ve worked on at Corteva was when our new payment system came into use. I enjoy learning new systems, finding my way around how they work, and this particular system has so much functionality that I thoroughly enjoyed investigating it! I resolved to keep a record of all of my system knowledge, which turned into a larger project than I had initially anticipated, and now my ‘Instruction guide’ is over 80 pages long and used by colleagues across different geographies.
What skills and experiences have been the most valuable in your position?
I would say the most valuable skill in my position is an attention to detail when it comes to creating POs from quotes, and ensuring invoices match the amounts on the PO. As part of my role is checking important documents for errors and formatting, this skill comes into play often.
What lessons have you gained from colleagues that have helped shape your professional path?
The most important lesson I have learned from my manager is to always try new things within the workplace to develop both personally and professionally. This has led to me recently becoming the leader of one of our European Business Resource Groups.
What aspects of Corteva's work culture do you find the most appealing and supportive?
The culture of belonging within Corteva is extremely strong, and support is available for all colleagues. In addition, there is a true culture of gratitude—by which I mean if someone does a good job, or supports you in some way, it is easy to thank them in a meaningful way.
Can you highlight any examples as to why Corteva is a great place to work?
The culture, as I mentioned, is second to none, and the people I work with each day make working for Corteva a pleasure, rather than just a job. The team are always friendly and eager to support, which really makes a difference!
What keeps you motivated and inspired outside of work?
I have always been a very creative person, so most of my motivation and inspiration comes from painting, drawing, writing poetry and books, and even sometimes embroidering designs for myself and to give as gifts. I find that creating something from scratch is not only rewarding but also helps me unwind during my free time.
