ProClova® XL is a NEW selective herbicide for use in both newly sown leys and established grassland where clover needs to be established and preserved.
It comes as a twin pack with two components that must be used together.
This is a good weed control solution but needs to be used carefully to secure the best effect on target weeds.
It works best with warmer temperatures. For optimum results, spray when overnight temperatures are forecast to be above 8°C for a period of 3 days before and 3 days after proposed application date. Lower temperatures can cause reduced efficacy / increased clover damage. Plan applications from the beginning of May – temperatures are unlikely to be at this level before then.
Make applications to weed targets that are at optimal size for good levels of control. For seedling weeds, spray before they reach 10 cm in height
Target established docks once they start to show active growth and ideally before they reach dinner plate size.
The label requires the application to be made using drift reduction technology – typically this means spraying with air inclusion nozzles. If your sprayer is not equipped with these, then contact the hotline and we can advise further. Where there is water course with water present you will need to avoid spraying within a 12m buffer zone.
If your grassland reseed follow a grass sward and has a reasonable population of docks, then do apply glyphosate at the full label rate to limit the carryover of docks via their root fragments
The label rate of ProClova XL in newly sown leys fully supports control of docks emerging from seedlings but the control will be more variable if there are docks growing from these legacy root systems.
ProClova XL will deliver good control of these weeds in a newly sown ley: mayweeds, redshank, shepherds purse, dock, common chickweed and black bindweed.
Although not listed on the label, we anticipate effective control of fumitory, cranesbill, charlock, dandelions, buttercups, and groundsel. Additionally, it will have a significant impact on fat hen, bindweed, and knotgrass.
On established grassland, at the higher dose rate, ProClova XL will give good control of docks, buttercups, dandelions, hogweed and cow parsley.
The safety on red clover is much better once it has over wintered so where this is present wait until then before spraying pastures where it is present.
