The Graham family have been farming at Lodge Farm, a 300-hectare arable farm, for almost 100 years. Their farm is situated in Nazeing, Essex, just north of Greater London. With Bryony returning from a career in scientific research and her brother Archie returning from a career in marketing, they join their father Robert as managing partners of Lodge Farm.
Whilst caring strongly for the environment they live and work in, farming arable crops (wheat, barley and oats) on heavy, clay soils has proven a challenge at times. The Grahams aim to explore new techniques for improving the productivity of these soils. Recently, they have expanded their rotation by introducing a 7ha trial of short-term willow coppice and have installed a biomass boiler to heat their buildings. Since 2018, they have also established a successful wedding and events venue business in their converted barns.
